sigh. this week was hectic like crazy.
rushed the bulk of the report, basically almost all of it just about from scratch, in a matter of like 4-5 days. and we are all very proud of it.
hopefully the examiners shall agree with my (our) opinion that it really is quite a decent effort, if not a good one with a very erm-ish topic.

then after that came open house, and the rain really spoilt any momentum we had going on, with all the stalls in that area shifting to other places to avoid the rain (loss of external economies of scale).
plus it swept our display board away, meaning we lost our main means of attraction.
so we had meagre, pathetic sales for the day, which does not bode well at all for our overall sales, given jenny leong chose to add another 200 issues without consulting her exco first.
(we had already ordered more than we usually do for this issue.)

as a result we now have to bank on back-of-canteen sales then try to push for some last-minute external sales late in the week, after jenny leong declined to send out letters last week since she was very optimistic and wanted us to sell the bulk of the stock to the sec4s who were coming on friday.
as it turned out the heavens mocked us. and her.
she seemed to have taken it very smoothly in her stride.
"then can you guys do back of canteen sales on monday? we have to sell as many as possible."
next up we have that as well as pw oral pres. hopefully that shouldnt be too tough a slog.

not entirely looking forwards to the freedom that will dawn on us in a couple of weeks' time. nothing much else to live for during the holidays, except outings, music and hopefully guitar lessons.
which, probably save for the latter, can be done during school days.

sigh. why don't any of my favourite bands come to town to perform?...

hehe. happy with myself for finally having purchased u2's the joshua after years of deliberation.
had been debating with myself whether to get it or not since i borrowed it from leonard lim in sec 2...
...cos i felt that it wasn't so much as a good album of songs but an album of good songs.
not their most cohesive, yes - but i miss the edge's guitar-playing too much.
it sounds abit too dolled up on achtung baby, even though the effect was good.
on the joshua tree it's pure bliss.
apparently the new u2 album 'how to dismantle an atomic bomb' will feature a return to the u2 sound of yore, i.e. like war, the unforgettable fire, the joshua tree.
which is, obviously, more than welcome.

but something has gone very wrong with bono's lyrics.
it almost appears that as songwriters get more and more focussed on politics the focus of their music becomes less of the heart but more of a mesage, which doesn't always work out. thom yorke and bruce springsteen are notable exceptions, though.
i didn't really like all that you can't leave behind. or 12 memories (travis) for that matter, as compared to the man who and the invisible band.

bono on the joshua tree is sooo poetic. beautiful lines aplenty.

and.
the promos are finally over.
which, after three days and a half of aimless living, means that we all shall face the bloody gigantic sceptre of our results in less than 24 hours' time.
sorry to burst the celebratory bubbles that some of you are blowing but i am really quite peeved now.
and scared.
the a for maths doesn't matter - it is the rest of it that really irks me, especially when i know i could and should have done much better.
resignation is much more easily mentioned than it is achieved.

plus there is the small matter of the bloody computer to my right.
just a few days after i finally amassed more than 1000 mp3s in my main playlist some arsehole unleashes what i believe is a virus on my computer that logs me off windows the instant i log in.
or any other user for that matter.
much as it is an ingenious virus, given the total idiocy of bill gates' team of techies, i cannot understand why anyone would try to piss people off like that.

the files in the computer are all still there - which makes the blockade even more excruciating.
the dell hotline number given in the owner's manual is a wrong number; the real dell hotline is closed on weekends; the nearest customer support centre is in penang.
being utterly pissed and nearly desperate i went to install windows again in the same drive partition. so now i can log in to windows but i cannot connect to the internet there because i have not the slightest idea how to activate the starhub link.
and i cannot access my files because i store my files under my personal folder which is password-protected.
which leaves me with two installations of windows xp on the same drive.
one practically useless.
one redundant.
and i have no idea also how to uninstall windows safely.
anyone remotely tech-savvy, please help if you can. thanks.

plus - there is also pw to deal with.
and openhouse is in five days.
how exciting.

i am so proud of myself.
compiled another cd-r - this time not sleep inducing. at least, not for me. haha.
there's discopunk in it! ha.
and the cover drew a compliment from claud. howzzat!

ok now back to trigo graphs. ugh.

found two good new albums in the last two days.
downloaded faded seaside glamour by the delays off soulseek over the weekend, and the lead's falsetto is just ethereal.
i only realised that the lead's a he after i read reviews on pitchfork and amazon.
pitchfork only gave it a 6 i think but who cares (they only gave antics 8.5). when the lead track contains such a melody as well as sampled steel drums, who can complain?
very nice feeling listening to the album on md as i walked from the library to parkway, with the sky getting its first blushes of peach.
(haha faded seaside glamour in the evening in marine parade.)

then i bought kasabian from sembawang 'cos they were selling it cheaper than hmv was, and i intended to get it anyway.
very funkeh record =] synth-laden rock with lots of programmed beats. worth the 18.90.

and i seem to have been caught in some sort of a wave of nostalgia.
since a few days ago i have been looking for and downloading songs from my p6 and lower sec years off soulseek. reminds me of the good old embarrassing days. haha.
included:
are you still having fun by eagle eye cherry
marie by solveig sandnes (!!!wub.)
sometimes by ash.
mechanical wonder by ocean colour scene.
i wouldn't wanna happen to you by embrace.

sigh...

satisfied. should be more than enough to tide me through the two promo weeks.
